One of the many misconceptions people have about CrossFit is that it's hard. Or rather, that it’s too hard. As with pretty much anything in life, if it’s worth doing, it probably won’t be easy.
So CrossFit is hard then?
CrossFit is as hard as you want it to be. That’s not us sitting on the fence. Any CrossFit WOD can be scaled according to a person’s fitness level and ability. If you see people smashing out kipping pull ups on your first trip to a CrossFit gym then, yes, you’re going to think that looks hard. Those people didn’t wake up one day able to do those pull ups. They started off using a box or a band, and then they progressed to doing maybe three strict pull ups and then they did five and so on and so on, until they mastered the art of the CrossFit kipping pull up.
Ok so CrossFit is easy?
CrossFit isn’t easy, we admit it. The workouts, or WODs, are designed to challenge you so you get fitter. This might mean working on your strength, endurance or your anaerobic power. Every WOD is different though, and what some people find tough, others breeze through and vice versa. There are so many different moves you’ll learn at CrossFit, all of which use different muscles and require different skills. The variety ensures that every member gets to do something they enjoy at some point during the week.
How do I know if I can do CrossFit?
Everyone can do CrossFit! The idea that CrossFit is ‘hard’ shouldn’t be a reason not to try it. Like we said, Crossfit is completely adaptable to your own level of fitness; that’s why every class has a coach on hand to help you. CrossFit is also shown to get the results you want (just ask our members) and those results won’t happen without some work. If you do find something particularly challenging then you can scale it back. Likewise, once you get the hang of a movement you’ll naturally feel ready to increase your output. The only criteria for CrossFit is that you’re willing to try. If you want ‘easy,’ you can always go for a walk.
How do I get started with CrossFit?
If you have decided that you want to give CrossFit a go then you can sign up for a 30 day no obligation trial where you can try out a whole month of CrossFit for a lower price before committing. In your first session, a trainer can help you with any moves you're unsure of and tell you how you can scale the workout so it feels comfortable. You’ll also find a community of CrossFit members who will encourage and reassure you. There’s nothing like getting to the end of a workout that you thought was ‘too hard’ and knowing that you smashed it.
